# Export attendees

> Download the attendee list, including custom question answers, as a file

Exporting gives you the full attendee list as a file you can open in a spreadsheet — for catering counts, a printed door list, a name-badge run, or your own records after the event.

***

## Export the list

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the guest list for the event">
    See [Guest list](/attendees/guest-list).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use the export control">
    Download the list for that event.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open it in a spreadsheet">
    Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets all read the exported file.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>
  The export controls are being documented against the live app. If you need an attendee list before then, email [contact@tixfix.ai](mailto:contact@tixfix.ai) with the event name.
</Info>

## What's in the export

The export covers the people registered for the event and the information they gave at checkout:

* **Name** and **email address** — always collected.
* **Phone number** — where the attendee provided it.
* **Ticket category** — which tier they bought.
* **Custom question answers** — every question you added to the registration form, including ones not marked *shown when scanning*.

That last point is the reason to export rather than work from the door screen: answers you collect for analysis rather than for the door only show up here. See [Registration form and custom questions](/events/registration-form).

***

## What to use it for

* **Catering** — count the meal choices before you confirm numbers with your venue.
* **A printed backup door list** — worth having when the entrance depends on phones and Wi-Fi.
* **Name badges** — a mail merge straight from the export.
* **Post-event follow-up** — though for emailing attendees, [Communication](/communication/email-attendees) does it in-app without exporting anything.

## Handle it carefully

<Warning>
  An attendee export is personal data — names, email addresses, phone numbers, and anything else you asked. Store it somewhere access-controlled, share it only with people who need it, and delete copies when the event is done.
</Warning>

Don't forward the file to vendors who only need a headcount. Send them the number.
