# Reserved seating FAQ

> Answers to common questions about seat maps, seat holds, and selling by seat

  <Accordion title="I can't see a Reserved Seating option. How do I get it?">
    Reserved seating is switched on per organizer account by TixFix. If step 2 of the event wizard has no `Reserved Seating` card, your account does not have it yet. Email [contact@tixfix.ai](mailto:contact@tixfix.ai) and ask for it to be enabled.

  <Accordion title="Can I sell some tickets by seat and others by quantity?">
    Not in the same event. Every ticket category must be assigned to at least one section on the map, or the map will not publish.

    For a general-admission floor with reserved seating around it, draw the floor as a `Standing` section with a capacity. Buyers add spots with a plus and minus counter, and it still counts as being on the map. See [Build a seat map](/seating/build-a-seat-map#standing-areas).

  <Accordion title="How many seats can a map have?">
    Up to 5,000, counting every seat in every section, standing capacity included, and blocked seats too. A larger map cannot be published.

  <Accordion title="I typed a ticket quantity but publishing changed it. Why?">
    On a seated event the number of tickets in a category is the number of seats the map draws for it. The quantity you typed in the category form is replaced when you publish.

    The publish dialog shows a `Before` and `After` table so you can check the change before you confirm. See [Publish a seat map](/seating/publish-a-seat-map#read-the-ticket-count-table).

  <Accordion title="How do I charge more for the best seats?">
    A seat never has a price of its own. It takes the price of the ticket category its section is assigned to.

    Create a pricier category, such as `Front Row`, draw the best rows as their own section, and assign that section to the category. Give each category its own `Seat color` so buyers can see the tiers on the map.

  <Accordion title="How long do buyers have to check out, and how many seats can they buy?">
    A buyer's seats are held for 5 minutes while they check out, and one order can contain at most 6 seats. The seat map screen has no control for either number. If you need different limits for an event, email [contact@tixfix.ai](mailto:contact@tixfix.ai).

  <Accordion title="Can I change the map after tickets have sold?">
    Yes. Your edits are saved as a draft, and buyers keep seeing the live map until you publish again. Seats that have been sold stay sold.

    You cannot remove a seat that has been sold or is being held. Publishing is refused and the message lists the seats. See [Edit a live map](/seating/publish-a-seat-map#edit-a-live-map).

  <Accordion title="A buyer wants a different seat.">
    The cleanest route is a full refund of their order, which frees the seats automatically, followed by the buyer purchasing the seats they want. See [Refunds and seats](/seating/manage-seated-events#refunds-and-seats).

    You can also [release the seat](/seating/manage-seated-events#release-a-seat) yourself. Releasing does not refund the buyer, so take care of that separately.

  <Accordion title="Can I release a seat that has already been scanned?">
    No. A seat whose ticket has been scanned cannot be released, because that guest is already inside. Every other held or sold seat can be.

  <Accordion title="Do buyers see the venue plan I uploaded?">
    No. A floor plan is a tracing aid for you only. Buyers see the seats, stage, entrances, and labels you draw on top of it. See [Trace over a floor plan](/seating/build-a-seat-map#trace-over-a-floor-plan).

  <Accordion title="Can I copy the seat map from a past event?">
    Not from the editor today. Duplicating an event does not copy its seat map either, so the new event starts as general admission. Turn reserved seating on and redraw the map, or start from one of the `Start from a room` presets.

  <Accordion title="Do I need to worry about two buyers taking the same seat?">
    No. A seat can only be held by one buyer at a time, and one of two simultaneous clicks always loses cleanly. A held seat that is never paid for goes back on sale after 5 minutes. See [Seat holds](/seating/how-buyers-choose-seats#seat-holds).
