# Core concepts

> Learn the vocabulary TixFix uses for events, tickets, orders, promoters, and payouts

These are the terms used throughout TixFix and throughout these docs. Skim them once and the rest of the guides will read faster.

## Events

**Organizer** — the business or person running events. Your organizer profile carries the business name, description, contact details, and social links that attendees see. One login can have access to more than one organizer; the organizer picker sits in the top-right of the dashboard. See [Set up your organizer profile](/get-started/organizer-profile).

**Event** — a single dated occasion you sell tickets to. An event has details (title, description, dates, venue, cover image, category, tags), one or more ticket categories, and a registration form.

**Draft** — an event that has been created but not published. Drafts are not visible to attendees. See [Publish and visibility](/events/publish-and-visibility).

**Published** — an event that is live and can accept registrations.

**Public event** — a published event that is also listed on the TixFix app, so people can discover it without a direct link. A published event that is *not* public is reachable only by its URL.

## Tickets and orders

**Ticket category** — a type of ticket within an event, such as `General` or `VIP`. Each has its own name, description, quantity, price, and sales window. Also called a ticket type. See [Ticket types and pricing](/events/ticket-types).

**Sales window** — the start and end date/time during which a ticket category can be bought. Categories in the same event can open and close at different times.

**Promo code** — a discount code an attendee enters at checkout. See [Promo codes](/events/promo-codes).

**Order** — one purchase transaction. An order can contain several tickets, and fees are calculated per order as well as per ticket.

**Attendee** — a person holding a ticket. Also called a guest. The count of attendees for an event shows as **Going** on the event card.

**Registration form** — the questions asked at checkout. Name and email are always collected; phone is optional. You can add your own questions on top. See [Registration form and custom questions](/events/registration-form).

**Custom question** — a question you add to the registration form, scoped to specific ticket categories. A custom question can be marked **shown when scanning**, which surfaces the attendee's answer to your door staff at check-in. See [Questions at check-in](/scanning/scan-questions).

**Donation** — an optional amount an attendee can add to their order at checkout, on top of the ticket price. See [Collect donations](/events/donations).

## People

**Admin** — a team member with full access to events, payments, promoters, communication, reporting, and settings.

**Scanner Plus** — a team member whose only job is checking attendees in. Scanner Plus users are assigned to specific events and cannot see event setup, payments, or settings. See [Add a scanner](/scanning/add-a-scanner).

**Scanner app** — the tool your door staff use to scan tickets and check attendees in. See [The scanner app](/scanning/scanner-app).

**Promoter** — someone who sells tickets on your behalf in exchange for commission. Promoters are invited per event and accept the deal by email. See [How promoters work](/promoters/overview).

**Commission** — what a promoter earns on the tickets they sell. See [Commission and allocation](/promoters/commission-and-allocation).

**Allocation** — the number of tickets a promoter is permitted to sell for an event. Also called their cap.

**Sell-through** — the share of a promoter's allocation they have actually sold, shown on the promoter roster as `SELL-THRU`.

## Money

**Service fee** — the TixFix fee, charged per ticket at **2% + \$0.49**.

**Payment processing fee** — the card processing fee, charged per order at **2.9% + \$0.30**.

For both fees you decide, per event, whether to absorb the cost or pass it on to attendees at checkout. See [Service and processing fees](/payments/fees).

**Gross revenue** — sales before fees are deducted. The Promoters dashboard labels this `Pre-fees`.

**Net sales** — what you keep after fees. This is the figure on your dashboard.

**Payout** — the transfer of your funds from Stripe to your bank account. See [Payouts](/payments/payouts).
